Fastcap speedtape for 3mm pvc edbanding. Good or bad?
I do very little laminate work, I want the festool conturo but not worth the investment for me. Definitely don’t need a big dedicated edgebander. I’m considering using fastcap speedtape, but have a couple concerns. Does it hold permanently or am I going to have edgebands come loos a couple years down the line? Does the glue gum up the trimmer or a router? Does it get into the laminate and leave residue I can’t remove? Any experience you have had with it, or alternatives will be very helpful, hope you can share.
The cheap PVC body of my 1/10th scale electric truggy finally broke in half two weeks ago, so I decided to make my own CyberTruggy body. 0.3mm sheet aluminium, 3mm stainless bolts. My first project like this, lots of lessons learned, and definitely not my last.
So I’m building an urban tatooine map, now I’m conflicted on what thickness I should use to base my buildings on, all of which are made of foam and cardstock etc. 3mm seems to be more flush with table which is more appealing in my opinion but I’m new to this so not sure if durability is an issue, Though 6mm seems way more sturdy but gives a decent gap from the table which is a bit off putting. Mainly asking for opinions of what thickness for the base everyone uses and pros and cons.

Using 10mm thick FOREX (PVC foam) sheets for a (sub)woofer enclosure: bad idea?
I need to build 2 enclosures, 1 for a 260mm subwoofer and one for 2 200mm woofers. The two enclosure will be stacked and put in the corner of my desk, behind my monitor. Due to space limitation/optimization, the "boxes" will have a "diamond shaped" base: https://preview.redd.it/ok1wf7qtaqv61.png?width=470&format=png&auto=webp&s=9d01cd8ab483148b98c7ef902928c2df3dfe6e9d Problem is i don't have any woodworking skill/tools, so making all the pieces with 19mm MFD along with the necessary 45° angled cuts makes each enclosure costs me about 100€, which i cant afford. So i'm wondering about using 10mm thick FOREX: i can cut and "hot-bend" it easy, and i can build the boxes. The FOREX sheet needed for both the boxes will cost 25€. What i don't know is if the material can handle the mechanical stress, so the speaker weight, and the internal air pressure. I see that acoustically is not the best, but i have to make compromises. What are your thougths?
Any idea where I can get 4 of this elbows ? Seems most shops have the T one but I wasn't able to find a 3D one except on amazon and the price is absurd.
This week's vintage batch features no less than 10(!) Parkers with Vacumatic filling systems, from the striped Duofold to the venerable Vacumatic to the innovative 51. Nibs offer a little something for everyone, including a couple that are uncommonly flexible. And while all are smooth, well-behaved, writers, there are 3 (in the 51s) that write as smooth as soap on marble. As always, all are fully restored and ready to write.
Condition (n.b.): All pens listed below have been disassembled, cleaned and restored with new diaphragms installed in the last couple months. Vacumatic fillers are something of a specialty of mine and I take pride in the amount of attention I devote to each. Any dried/coagulated ink is removed from feed channels. All remnants of thread sealant and ossified diaphragms are cleaned away. Threads are meticulously chased. Interiors of barrels are cleaned and polished to remove ink staining and restore transparency. Sections are sealed against leaks using Main Street Pens' rosin-based thread sealant. Clips have been tightened when necessary to ensure they do not wiggle/rotate. Each of these pens is guaranteed to fill and write as designed without leaks or other problems. Nibs have been adjusted when necessary to ensure that all lay down a smooth and consistent line. THESE PENS HAVE NO CRACKS, CHIPS, PERSONALIZATIONS, LOOSE OR MISSING PARTS, BENT NIBS, MISALIGNED TINES, BROKEN/WORN OFF TIPPING, OR THREADING ISSUES.
Line Widths and Writing Samples: To provide buyers with as much information as possible, I have started to adopt the following line width standards: XXF (.1-.2mm); XF (approx .3mm); F (approx .4mm); M (approx .6mm); B (approx .8mm). Nib flexibility is determined by variation (max line width under pressure) and softness (amount of pressure). Flexibility designations based on variation generally run as follows for an XF/F nib: Semi-Flex (approx. 1mm); Flex (1.4-1.9mm); Superflex (>2mm). All line width measurements are taken with a digital caliper but should be considered approximations providing a general guide. Width may vary slightly depending on type of ink and paper used as well as amount of pressure applied. All writing samples are on Rhodia dot paper using Waterman Serenity Blue.
On Filling Vacumatics: To fill the Vacumatic fillers below, one simply removes the blindcap, submerses the nib, and depresses the plunger until the barrel is full.
1. 1940 Parker Vac Duofold Sub-Deb (Dusty Red, celluloid, GPT, Vacumatic Speedline Filler, 14k XF/F Flex nib). This short model measures 4 7/8" capped and 5 3/8" posted. In 1940 Parker remodeled the Duofold in colorful, striated celluloid. With its modest size and trim configuration, the Sub-Deb was the most affordable striped Duofold. But this Vac filling variant outranks the later button filling models. It's made of a dusty red and grey pearl celluloid with transparent barrel striations complemented by gold-plated trim and metal Speedline filler (a short-lived feature of early models). The vast majority of Duofolds from the 1940s were equipped nibs that are soft/springy but by no means flexible. The Flexible 14k Parker Pen nib in this one is an uncommon exception. It lays down a smooth and consistent XF/F line that widens to a 3B+ (approx 1.8mm) under moderate pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE). Strong snap-back and reliable flow over its full range of flex make it a great choice for expressive/calligraphic writing styles. Condition: excellent [B]. Gold-plated trim is clean aside from a short, hairsbreadth sliver of brassing on the edges of the clip tassie on the back of the cap and a negligible spot of high-point wear on the bottom edge of the clip. Celluloid has a smooth, lustrous finish with no deep scratches or other notable blemishes. Excellent transparency with ink level visible when held to light (see DETAIL PHOTO). Manufacturer imprint on barrel is only partially legible with date code worn away. Price: $150SOLD
2. 1940 Parker Vac Duofold Sub-Deb (Blue Pearl, celluloid, GPT, Vacumatic Speedline Filler, 14k XF Semi-Flex nib). This short model measures 4 7/8" capped and 5 3/8" posted. This is the same model as pen #1 but in blue and grey pearl. Gold-plated trim, transparent barrel striations, and metal Vac Speedline filler. Semi-Flexible 14k Parker Pen nib lays down a smooth and consistent XF line that widens to a 3B+ (approx 1.5mm) under moderate pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE). A nice nib for adding a little shading to one's script. Condition: excellent- [B-]. Gold-plated trim is clean aside from some wear to the cap bands. Celluloid has a smooth, lustrous finish with no deep scratches or other notable blemishes apart from some short scratches on the cap jewel. Transparency on this one is honestly not that great. In front of a very bright light, you can see some, but it's mostly opaque. Manufacturer imprint and date code on barrel are sharp and fully legible. Price: $130 $120
3. 1945 Parker Vac Duofold Ingenue (Dusty Red, celluloid, GPT, Vacumatic filler, 14k Two-Tone XF nib). This short model measures 4 7/8" capped and 5 3/8" posted. The Senior (gentlemen) and Ingenue (ladies) were Parker's flagship Duofolds. Both pens carried Parker's Lifetime guarantee. And they are listed for the same price in catalogues of the period. Like the Senior, this pen sports a gold-plated Blue Diamond clip and chevron cap band. It's made of dusty red and grey pearl celluloid with transparent barrel striations. Vacumatic filler with plastic plunger as one would expect on a 1945 model. The 14k two-tone Parker V-nib is a scarce and charming feature (most were monotone). It's been speculated that the 'V' on the 14k nib was a hopeful allusion to an Allied Victory in WWII. It lays down a smooth and consistent XF line (see WRITING SAMPLE). Condition: excellent [B]. Gold-plated trim is clean aside from a couple small spots of wear on the clip. Celluloid has a smooth, lustrous finish with no deep scratches or other notable blemishes. Decent transparency with ink level visible when held to a bright light (see DETAIL PHOTO). Manufacturer imprint and date code on barrel are sharp and fully legible. Price: $160 $145
4. 1940 Parker Vac Duofold Major (Green and Gold, celluloid, GPT, Vacumatic Speedline Filler, 14k XF nib). This standard sized model measures 5 3/16" capped. While the Major was one step down from the flagship Senior and Ingenue, it features an elegant Art Deco cap band that's unique among striped Duofolds (cf. the cap band of coeval Royal Challengers). This early iteration in green and gold pearl celluloid with gold-plated trim is equipped with a metal Vac Speedline filler and blind cap tassie (features phased out soon after 1940). 14k Parker Pen nib lays down a smooth and consistent XF line (see WRITING SAMPLE). Condition: excellent [B]. Gold-plated trim is pristine aside from one short sliver of wear on one side of the blind cap tassie. Celluloid has a smooth, lustrous finish with no deep scratches or other notable blemishes. Good transparency with ink level visible when held to light (see DETAIL PHOTO). Manufacturer imprint and date code on barrel are sharp and fully legible. Price: $170SOLD
5. 1945 Parker Vac Duofold Senior (Blue Pearl, celluloid, GPT, Vacumatic filler, 14k XF nib). This oversized model measures a hair over 5 3/8" capped. The Senior was Parker's premier Duofold in the 1940s and an example in this color is the most sought after among them. It features gold-plated trim with chevron cap band and Blue Diamond clip signifying Parker's lifetime guarantee. This pen is made of the desirable blue and grey pearl marble celluloid interspersed with transparent barrel striations. 14k Parker V-nib lays down a smooth and consistent XF line (see WRITING SAMPLE). Condition: excellent+ [B+]. Gold-plated trim is exceptionally clean with no brassing or other notable flaws. Celluloid has a smooth, lustrous finish with no deep scratches or other noteworthy blemishes. Excellent transparency with ink level visible when held to light (see DETAIL PHOTO). Manufacturer imprint and date code on barrel are sharp and fully legible. Price: $220SOLD
6. 1945 Parker Vacumatic Major (Silver Pearl, celluloid, NPT, Vacumatic filler, 14k XF nib). What would a batch of Vac fillers be without a Vacumatic or two?! This standard sized model measures a hair over 5 1/16" capped. Silver Pearl celluloid with transparent barrel striations. Nickel-plated chevron cap band, Blue Diamond clip, and black cap jewel. 14k Parker Vac arrow nib lays down a smooth and consistent XF line (see WRITING SAMPLE). Condition: excellent [B]. Nickel-plated trim is clean aside from having lost some of its luster around the bottom of the cap band and tiny spots of high-point wear where the clip arrow comes to a point on each side of the clip. Celluloid has a smooth, lustrous finish with no deep scratches or other noteworthy blemishes. Superb transparency with ink level visible when held to light (see DETAIL PHOTO). Manufacturer imprint and date code on barrel are sharp and fully legible. Price: $180 $170
7. 1937-9 Vacumatic Senior Maxima (Black, celluloid, Vac Speedline Filler, 14k XF/F Flex/Superflex nib). This oversized model (long, thick girth) measures 5 1/8" capped. It's a 2nd-generation Vac: double jeweled, wide chevron cap band and metal Speedline filler. Manufactured before the introduction of the blue diamond clip, this was a trim configuration available only from 1937-39. These big Vacs are getting harder to find, and when they crop up they almost always have rigid nibs that write like nails. The oversized 14k Vac Arrow nib on this one is a rare exception. Canadian Vacs are often found with interesting nibs. Like others I've offered in the past, this one left the factory with scoop directly behind the tipping, giving it an upturned, "Waverly" quality. It yields Super-Flexible variation with Flexible softness and also has an unusual factory grind that lays down a stubby F at a 45 degree angle to the page but an XF when one tilts it any higher toward perpendicular – this factory grind gives it a nice versatility under normal pressure. Under moderate pressure, the line widens to a 4B+ (approx 2.0mm) with reliable flow over its full range of flex (see WRITING SAMPLE). A wild combination of writing characteristics that together make this nib a great choice for adding shading to print as well as for flexible calligraphic styles. Condition: excellent [B]. Gold-plated trim is clean aside from a some inconspicuous scratches around the cap band indicia on the backside of the cap (DETAIL PHOTO). Some cosmetic wear to the metal plunger, but noting that affects its functioning (see fillers photo). Note: cap screws on and holds securely with plenty of clearance for the nib, but the cap screws on deeper than most, making capped length perhaps 1/8" shorter. Celluloid has a smooth, lustrous surface with no deep scratches or other notable blemishes apart from a couple short grooves on the barrel from the cap being screwed on and off over the years. Good barrel transparency with ink level readily visible when pen is held to light (DETAIL PHOTO). Manufacturer imprint on the barrel is very weak but still mostly legible under a loupe. Date code is worn away. Price: $340SOLD
8. 1945 Parker 51 Vac (Dove Grey, Lucite, Lustraloy cap, Vacumatic filler, 14k XF nib). This standard sized model measures 5 7/16" capped. Successor to the Vacumatic, the Parker 51 was the best-selling fountain pen ever made. Engineered with the precision of a Swiss watch and built like a tank, the 51 introduced several innovative features that continue to make it a favorite EDC among writers today. The hooded nib enables the 51 to remain uncapped for extended periods without drying out (preventing hard starts when it returns to paper). The clutch-activated cap is uncapped quickly while holding securely when the pen is pocketed. The Lucite barrel is all but indestructible, so you never have to worry about cracks if the pen takes a spill. And the Vacumatic filling system holds plenty of ink (approx 2mL). This is a Vac-filling 51 in Dove Grey with Lustraloy cap, pearl grey jewel, and Blue Diamond clip that would be phased out c.1947. 14k nib lays down a buttery smooth and consistent XF line with impeccable flow (see WRITING SAMPLE). Condition: excellent [B]. Cap shows no dents, dings, or other notable blemishes. Lucite has a smooth, lustrous surface with no deep scratches or other noteworthy flaws. Manufacturer imprint and date code on barrel are sharp and fully legible. Price: $150SOLD
9. 1947 Parker 51 Vac (Cordovan, Lucite, Lustraloy cap, Vacumatic filler, 14k XF nib). This standard sized model measures 5 7/16" capped. For more info on the Parker 51, see description of pen #8 above. This is a Vac-filling 51 in Cordovan with Lustraloy cap and grey pearl jewel. 14k nib lays down a buttery smooth and consistent XF line with impeccable flow (see WRITING SAMPLE). Condition: excellent+ [B+]. Cap shows no dents, dings, or other notable blemishes. Lucite has a smooth, lustrous surface with no deep scratches or other noteworthy flaws. Manufacturer imprint and date code on barrel are sharp and fully legible. Price: $150SOLD
10. 1948 Parker 51 Vac (Cedar Blue, 12k GF cap, Vacumatic filler, 14k XF nib). This standard sized model measures 5 7/16" capped. For more info on the Parker 51, see description of pen #8 above. This is a Vac-filling 51 in Cedar Blue with12k gold-filled cap (as marked) in the converging lines pattern. Pearl grey jewel. 14k nib lays down a buttery smooth and consistent XF line with impeccable flow (see WRITING SAMPLE). Condition: fine [C]. Gold-plated cap has a ding underneath the clip arrow and a couple dings on the right side of the clip (see timestamp photo). It's otherwise clean with no brassing or other notable wear. Lucite has a smooth, lustrous surface with no deep scratches or other noteworthy flaws. Manufacturer imprint and date code on barrel are sharp and fully legible. Note: clip is not crooked – that's just the angle of the photo. Price: $125SOLD

[WTS] VINTAGE • 100+ Yr Old Pens in Black, Silver, and Gold (Superflex–Wet Noodle): Waterman 0572 1/2 Overlay | Sheaffer Overlay Ring Top | Mabie Todd Overlay, SF 230 | Moore L-92 | Oversized Safety | Parker Lucky Curve 20, Early 20 Ring Top •
This week's vintage batch features early FPs in BHR, SIlver, and Gold from the 1910-20s. This batch has several pens with unusually flexible nibs, including no less than 3 Wet Noodles. As always, all are fully restored and ready to write. NOTE TO BUYERS: DUE TO THE HOLIDAY RUSH, PENS PURCHASED FROM THIS BATCH OVER THE WEEKEND WILL NOT BE SHIPPED UNTIL WEDNESDAY, 11/30
Condition (n.b.): All pens listed below have been disassembled, cleaned and restored with new sacs installed in the last couple weeks. Each of these pens is guaranteed to fill and write as designed without leaks or other problems. Nibs have been adjusted when necessary to ensure that all lay down a smooth and consistent line. THESE PENS HAVE NO CRACKS, CHIPS (except #9), PERSONALIZATIONS, LOOSE OR MISSING PARTS, BENT NIBS, MISALIGNED TINES, BROKEN/WORN OFF TIPPING, OR THREADING ISSUES.
1. 1910s Waterman 0572 1/2 (GF over HR, Gothic pattern, eyedropper filler, 14k XXF Superflex nib). This full-length, thin (1/2-sized) model measures 5" capped. I've always been enamored of Waterman's overlays. Hand cut and ornately engraved in exquisite detail, they exhibit a craftsmanship that's rare if not impossible to come by today. Known to collectors as "Gothic" the overlay pattern on this pen exhibits a geometric checked pattern with each check composed of thin vertical lines. Early style wide Clip-Cap on the cap. The 0572 1/2 model is a bit of an oddity that bore the 'POC' designation in other years. The '7' in the 10s place indicates an eyedropper filler while the '05' signifies a gold-filled overlay. The section unscrews for the barrel to filled using an eyedroppepipette – holds far more ink than a lever filler of the same size. 14 Super-Flexible Ideal NY #2 nib lays down a smooth and consistent XXF line that widens to a 4B+ (approx 2.3mm) under light pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE). Needlepoint hairlines, superbly responsive snap-back, and reliable flow over its full range of flex make it an excellent choice for calligraphic writing styles such as Copperplate and Spencerian. Condition: excellent [B]. Gold-filled overlay is extraordinarily clean with no brassing or other notable flaws aside from one sole ding on the barrel at the nib side (see timestamp photo). Captop is nice and round. Hard rubber retains its factory black color with no discernible oxidation. Manufacturer imprint toward end of barrel is very weak and mostly worn away but the number stamp on the barrel end is sharp, fully legible, and even retains some of its original red fill. Price: $340SOLD
2. c.1920 Sheaffer Overlay Ring Top (GF over HR, line and bar pattern, lever filler, XXF Flex/Superflex nib). This short, standard girth model measures 3 7/8" capped and 5 3/16" posted. It was Walter A. Sheaffer who first patented the lever-filling fountain pen in 1908. In 1912 he founded the Sheaffer pen company and his revolutionary design was met with resounding acclaim. Most of their model lineup in this period – before stiff, manifold nibs became the rage in the mid-20s – was comprised of simple black hard rubber pens with long-tined gold nibs marked "Self-Filling." They are every bit as flexible as early Waterman's, which are more common today, but Sheaffer's are typically more responsive (having stronger snap-back). This elegant ring top is made of hard rubber with a gold-filled overlay, engraved in the line and bar pattern Waterman called "Sheraton." Ring at the top enabled pen to be carried on a chatelaine/pocket chain. 14k Sheaffer Self-Filling #2 nib yields Super-Flexible variation with Flexible softness. It lays down a smooth and consistent XXF line that widens to a 4B+ (approx 2.0mm) under moderate pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE). Needlepoint hairlines, superbly responsive snap-back, and reliable flow over its full range of flex make it another great choice for calligraphic writing styles. Condition: excellent+ [B+]. I can't tell you how uncommon it is to find a GF overlay of this vintage that's free of flaws but here it is. No dents, dings, or brassing whatsoever. Ends are prefectly round. The only blemish I can find on the entire pen is a hairsbreadth sliver of wear on the right side/corner of the lever. Hard rubber retains its factory black color with no oxidation. A beautiful example of a 100 yr old pen and a lovely writer. Price: $190SOLD
3. 1920s Mabie Todd Overlay (silver over HR, hammered, eyedropper filler, 14k XXF Superflex nib). Measures 5 1/16" capped. This curious pen features an overlay with a pattern I've never seen in person before. It appears to be exquisitely hammered by hand in a motif resembling coral. It's possible that the manufacture markings on the overlay have worn off over the years, but the grooved section (cf. pen #4), feed, and nib are all consistent with early Mabie Todd. Perhaps the overlay was a custom job by a jeweler, as was common overseas. This pen came clipless from the factory (no holes drilled for a clip). It's an eyedropper filler. The section unscrews for the barrel to be filled with ink using an eyedroppepipette – holds far more ink than a lever filler of the same size. 14k Super-Flexible Mabie Todd #2 nib lays down a smooth and consistent XXF line that widens to a 4B+ (approx 2.1mm) under light pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE). Needlepoint hairlines, superbly responsive snap-back, and reliable flow over its full range of flex make it another excellent choice for calligraphic writing styles. Condition: excellent/fair [B/C]. Overlay indicia on the barrel bears a professionally engraved monogram: "SHC" in elegant Copperplate script, attesting to how this pen was cherished by its original owner. Overlay itself is clean, its substantial heft and lack of any brassing pointing to it being solid silver like the Watermans below. Some of the hammered marks that make up the pattern on the overlay spill over onto the plain portions on the ends. This makes the only flaws on this pen – a few pin-sized dings around the top of the cap – less conspicuous, appearing as though they were part of the pattern. Hard rubber parts retain their dark black color with little fading. Price: $260 $240
4. c.1920 Mabie Todd SF 230 (smooth BHR w/ RBHR band, GPT, lever filler, 14k F Superflex nib). This is one of the larger BHR models, measuring 5 3/8" capped. Mabie Todd was England's premier pen company at the time this pen was made. And it's easy to see why. Made of black hard rubber with a charming red and black hard rubber cap at the top of the cap (the crown is RBHR), this Self-Filler 230 features a generous trim configuration with multiple heavy gold bands. Mabie Todd's nib finishing was on a par with Mont Blanc's when it came to smoothness. And the 14k Superflex Swan #2 nib on this pen epitomizes everything they did right. It lays down a buttery smooth and consistent F line that widens to an impressive 4B+ (approx 2.6mm!) under light pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE). Easy variation, strong snap-back, and reliably wet flow over its full range of flex make it another great choice for calligraphic writing styles. Condition: excellent [B]. Hard rubber retains its dark black color with little discernible oxidation. Gold-plated trim is clean aside from a couple pin-sized nicks on the lever and the thinnest sliver of brassing on the bottom edge of the lower barrel band. HR surface is smooth and lustrous with no deep scratches or other notable flaws. Manufacturer imprint on barrel is weak but fully legible. Model number stamp on cap is deep and fully legible. Price: $290SOLD
5. 1920s Moore L-92 (BCHR, GPT, lever filler, 14k F Superflex Factory Stub nib). Measures 5 5/16" capped. Moore was an early first-tier pen company out of Boston that never managed to garner the popular acclaim of the Big Four brands. In spite of this, their quality of construction was on a par with those makers. In addition to this, their innovative lever filler design and expressive nibs have made them sought after by a loyal following of writers and collectors. This pen, marked L-92 on the barrel-end is made of black chased hard rubber complemented by gold-plated trim including clip stamped with Moore's logo. 14k Moore #2 nib is a Super-Flexible Factory Stub. Under normal pressure it lays down a a smooth and consistent F line on the down-strokes and XF line on the cross-strokes. Under light pressure, the line widens to a 4B+ (approx 2.3mm) (see WRITING SAMPLE). Strong snap-back and reliable flow over its full range of flex. A versatile nib that's great for adding flair to everyday writing as it is for calligraphic writing styles. Condition: excellent [B]. Hard rubber retains its dark black color with little discernible fading. Chasing shows some wear but is still visible and palpable. HR surface is smooth and lustrous with no deep scratches or other notable flaws. Manufacturer imprint on barrel is weak but fully legible. Number stamp on barrel-end are deep and fully legible. Price: $200 $190SOLD
6. 1920s Oversized Safety (BCHR, safety filler, 14k XF Wet Noodle nib). This oversized model is equivalent in proportions to a Watermans 45 or 46, having a thick girth and measuring 5" capped. This unmarked Safety pen is made of black chased hard rubber with no metal trimmings. Quality is on a par with Waterman Safeties of the period. Safety Pens feature retractable nibs much like the modern Montblanc Boheme's (see (DETAIL PHOTO). The nib and feed are integrated into a spiral mechanism inside the barrel, which smoothly extends them for writing when the knob on the end of the barrel is turned clockwise. When fully extended, the feed creates an ink-tight seal at the mouth of the barrel to regulate flow. Turning the knob counter-clockwise retracts the nib into the barrel, which enables the barrel to be filled with an eyedroppepipette. Once the nib is retracted and the cap screwed on, the mouth of the barrel creates another ink-tight seal against a plug in the inner cap, preventing leaks into the cap when the pen is carried (hence the "Safety" moniker). This pen came clipless from the factory at a time when clips were an optional add-on (no holes drilled for a rivet-clip or ring top). One of two optional gold-filled vintage accommodation clips may be fitted at the cost of $40: one a Roman soldier and griffin design, the other an elegant geometric pattern. 14k Warranted nib is a Wet Noodle with flow and softness comparable to that of a dip pen. It lays down a smooth and consistent XF line that widens to a wildly wide 4B+ (approx 2.6mm!) under minimal pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE). Thin hairlines, effortless variation, superb snap-back, and reliable flow over its full range of flex make it an ideal choice for calligraphic writing styles such as Copperplate and Spencerian. Condition: excellent [B]. Seal replaced with o-rings from Nishimura – guaranteed to operate as designed without leaks and nib stays firmly in place when extended for writing. Hard rubber retains its dark black color with little discernible fading – just a hint when one unscrews the cap. Chasing is sharp and deep with little wear. HR surface is smooth and lustrous with no deep scratches or other notable flaws. A hefty Safety with a wild nib. Price: $310SOLD
7. 1920s Unbranded Safety (BCHR, Safety filler, 14k XF Superflex nib). Measures 4 3/4" capped and 5 7/8" posted. Super-Flexible 14k Warranted nib lays down a smooth and consistent XF line that widens to a 4B+ (approx 2.2mm) under light pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE). Thin hairlines, responsive snap-back, and reliable flow over its full range of flex make it another great choice for expressive and calligraphic writing styles. Condition: near mint [B+]. Seal replaced with o-rings from Nishimura – guaranteed to operate as designed without leaks and nib stays firmly in place when extended for writing. Cosmetic condition is phenomenal. Hard rubber retains its factory black color with no discernible fading. Chasing is factory sharp and crisp with no discernible wear. HR surface is smooth and lustrous with no deep scratches or other notable flaws. Indicia on the barrel for engeaving has been left blank. Price: $165SOLD
8. 1910s Parker Lucky Curve 20 (smooth BHR, NPT, button filler, 14k XF Wet Noodle nib). This short, standard girth model measures 4 1/2" capped and 5 3/4" posted. Early Parkers are hard to beat as flexible writers, their nibs often softer yet somehow snappier than Watermans of the era. This pen is made of smooth black hard rubber with nickel-plated trim. The barrel bears the 'Lucky Curve' banner imprint signifying Parker's patented Lucky Curve 'Xmas tree' feed. Cap was bandless from the factory with nickel-plated clip bearing 1916 patent date. Knurled HR blindcap and clip lock. This pen is a button filler (DETAIL PHOTO). To fill simply unscrew the blindcap, submerse the nib, and depress the brass button once. 14k Parker Lucky Curve #2 nib is a Wet Noodle with flow and softness comparable to that of a dip pen. It lays down a smooth and consistent XF line that widens to an obscenely wide 4B++ (approx 2.7mm!) under minimal pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE). Thin hairlines, effortless variation, superbly responsive snap-back, and reliable flow over its full range of flex make it an ideal choice for calligraphic writing styles. A nib that's guaranteed to please. Condition: excellent [B]. Hard rubber retains its dark black color with little discernible oxidation. Knurling of the clip-lock slightly weakened. Nickel-plated trim is clean with no brassing or other notable wear. HR surface is smooth and lustrous with no deep scratches or other noteworthy flaws. Manufacturer imprint on barrel is a little weakened but still fully legible. Model number stamp on blind cap is deep and fully legible. Price: $280SOLD
9. c.1912 Parker Jack-Knife Safety 20 Baby Ring Top (smooth HR, GPT, eyedropper filler, 14k XF Wet Noodle nib). This baby ring top has a standard girth and measures 3 1/2" capped and 4 7/8" posted. Early Parkers like this one don't come round often. This one was made shortly after Parker introduced their Lucky Curve feed and Jack-Knife Safety (non-leakable) cap. But its trim configuration – particularly the gold-filled, repoussé crown – hearkens back to the 19th century. Patent dates on unusual, horizontally oriented barrel imprint include 1891 and 1894 while the Jack-Knife Safety cap displays a 1912 patent date. Ring at the top enabled the pen to be worn on a chatelaine/pocket chain. But the pen is so squat it could also be worn comfortably around the neck. The section unscrews for the barrel to filled using an eyedroppepipette – holds far more ink than a lever filler of the same size. Appropriately early Parker Lucky Curve #2 nib with teardrop breather is a Wet Noodle with softness and flow comparable to that of a dip pen. It lays down a smooth and consistent XF line that widens to an obscenely wide 4B++ (approx 2.7mm!) under minimal pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE). Thin hairlines, effortless variation, superbly responsive snap-back, and reliable flow over its full range of flex make it another ideal choice for calligraphic writing styles. Condition fine/fair [C/D]. The primary reason for this grading is several chips in the cap lip: DETAIL PHOTO1 | DETAIL PHOTO. Thanks to the wide cap band, these can't be seen from the outside and shouldn't worsen, but have been factored into the price. Hard rubber retains its dark black color with little discernible fading. Surface has a lightly worn texture but no deep scratches or other notable flaws. Gold-plated trim shows no brassing or other noteworthy blemishes aside from a small ding on the bottom of the cap band (see 2nd detail photo above). Manufacturer imprints on barrel and cap are deep and fully legible. An uncommon piece of Parker history and a lovely writer. Price: $200SOLD

[WTS] VINTAGE • Kaleidoscopic Colors and Wild Writers from England (Flex–Wet Noodle, Oblique): Mabie Todd Blackbird #3, SM 1/57, Blue Swan, SM 100/63 | Stephens 76 | Ingersoll •
This week's vintage batch features colorful British pens with unusually expressive nibs from the 1920s-30s. Nibs range from Super-Flexible to Wet Noodle, including a couple capable of max line widths that are simply out of this world. As always, all are fully restored and ready to write.
1. 1920s Mabie Todd Blackbird No. 3 (red and black HR, NPT, lever filler, 14k F Superflex/Wet Noodle nib). This full-sized model measures 5 3/8" capped. The Blackbird was Mabie Todd's British canvas for experimentation, the design changing drastically over the years. This early blackbird is an early, larger #3-sized model made of red and black hard rubber in a woodgrain pattern. Nickel-plated clip with blackbird logo and robust lever made of thick black hard rubber. 14k long-tined Blackbird #3 nib yields Super-Flexible variation with softness verging on a Wet Noodle. It lays down a smooth and consistent F line that widens to a wild 4B++ (approx 2.7mm!) under very light pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE). Impressively wide max line width, responsive snap-back, and reliably wet flow over its full range of flex make it an outstanding choice for calligraphic writing styles such as Copperplate and Spencerian. Condition: excellent [B]. Hard rubber retains its vibrant colors with little discernible oxidation. Nickel-plated clip is clean aside from light scratches and the typical sliver of wear on the clip ball. Hard rubber has a smooth, lustrous surface with no deep scratches or other notable blemishes. Manufacturer imprint on the barrel is deep and fully legible. Price: $320SOLD
2. 1930s Mabie Todd SM 1/57 (blue and bronze, celluloid, NPT, lever filler, 14k XF/F Wet Noodle nib). This full-sized model measure 5 1/4" capped. Mabie Todd's Swan Minor models offered some of the most stunning celluloid color patterns among their range of pens. This one is no exception, being made of a scarce pattern consisting of blue and bronze pearl marble. Nickel-plated clip with Swan logo, robust lever made of thick black hard rubber, and swan logo imprinted in the cap's crown. 14k Swan #1 nib is a Wet Noodle with flow and softness comparable to that of a dip pen. It lays down a smooth and consistent XF/F line that widens to an impressively wide 4B+ (approx 2.6mm) under minimal pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE). A truly wild nib that's guaranteed to please. Thin hairlines, superbyly responsive snap-back, and reliable flow over its full range of flex make it an ideal choice for calligraphic writing styles such as Copperplate and Spencerian. Condition: excellent [B]. Nickel-plated clip is clean aside from some short scratches and wear mostly limited to the highest point near the top. Celluloid has a smooth, lustrous surface with no deep scratches or other notable blemishes. Manufacturer imprint on the barrel and model number on barrel end are deep and fully legible. Price: $320SOLD
3. 1930s Mabie Todd Swan (blue marble, celluloid, NPT, lever filler, 14k M Oblique nib). This standard sized model measures 4 7/8" capped. The Swan (major) was a step up from the Blackbird in Mabie Todd's model lineup, featuring a larger nib and more generous trim. I don't believe this later model ever had a number stamp. It's made of wrapped blue marble celluloid complemented by nickel-plated trim. Cap's crown and clip are stamped with the Swan logo. 14k Swan #2 nib is a M Factory Left-Foot Oblique nib: a kind of stub popular in Europe that requires one to tilt the nib sideways while writing. It lays down a smooth and consistent XF line on the down-strokes and M line on the cross-strokes (see WRITING SAMPLE). Another versatile nib that's great for adding style to one's everyday writing. Condition: excellent [B]. Nickel-plated trim is exceptionally clean with no notable flaws aside from the typical sliver of brassing on the clip ball and light wear on the right side of the clip at the top. Celluloid has a smooth, lustrous surface with no deep scratches or other notable blemishes. Manufacturer imprint on the barrel is deep and fully legible. Price: $190 $175
4. 1930s Mabie Todd Swan Minor 100/63 (Russet and Jade, celluloid, NPT, lever filler, 14k XF/F Superflex nib). This standard sized model measures 5" capped. Mabie Todd's Swan Minor models offered some of the most stunning celluloid color patterns. This one is no exception, being made of a scarce pattern consisting of rippled, pearlescent portions of russet and jade commingled with deep black. One might surmise it's Mabie Todd's take on Waterman's Moss Agate. Clip is nickel-plated while the lever is made of a thick slab of hard rubber: an interesting feature of the Swan Minor range. Swan trademark impressed into the cap top. 14k long-tined Swan #1 nib is a Super-Flexible writer, laying down a smooth and consistent XF/F line (depending on wetness of ink) that widens to a 4B+ (approx 2.1mm) under light pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE). Thin hairlines with a light touch, precisely responsive snap-back, and reliable flow over its full range of flex make it another outstanding choice for calligraphic writing styles. Condition: excellent [B]. Nickel-plated clip shows a peppering of wear throughout. Celluloid has a smooth, lustrous surface with no deep scratches or other notable blemishes. Manufacturer imprint on the barrel is deep and fully legible. A lovely writer and a hard-to-find color. Price: $260SOLD
5. 1930s Stephens' No. 76 (Turquoise [blue and bronze] celluloid, NPT, button filler, 14k Stubby F Flex/Superflex nib). Measures 5 1/8" capped. Stephens' was a British maker renowned for manufacturing ink since middle of 19th century. It's speculated that Stephens pens were manufactured by Langs, makers of Summit and Savoy pens (among others). The company entered the fountain pen market in the 1930s with its innovative twist on the conventional button filler. Instead of having a removable blind cap with a button underneath, a Stephens button filler has a non-removable blindcap that functions as a button when it's unscrewed from the back of the barrel to the open position (see detail photo in album). Despite their relative obscurity compared to the likes of Mabie Todd and Conway Stewart, Stephens' pens are extremely well crafted; I would even say their construction is of higher quality than that the lion's share of their competitors'. Owing to the solid stainless steel used in the filler and thick celluloid, these pens have a substantial heft in the hand. And they have no less than six sets of threads in their design. The celluloid pattern on this one is the scarcest and, IMHO, prettiest among those available at the time. It is identical to the desirable "Turquoise" that Waterman used for the celebrated Patrician and Lady Patricia models. The color pattern has always recalled to me Van Gogh’s Starry Night, having swirls of deep blue and baby blue overlaid with iridescent patches of golden brown. The 76 was a step up from the 56, featuring a larger nib and nickel-plated trim with a cap band. To fill, one simply unscrews the blindcap (see detail photo), submerses the nib, and depresses the blind cap once. 14k Stephens' 76 nib yields Super-Flexible variation with Flexible softness. Unflexed, it lays down a F line on the down-strokes and XF line on the cross-strokes. Under moderate pressure, the line widens to a 4B+ (approx 2.0mm) (see WRITING SAMPLE). Unflexed variation as well as strong snap back and generous flow under flex make it a versatile nib well suited for adding expression to one's daily writing as well as calligraphic writing. Condition: near mint [B+]. Color is superb – no darkening whatsoever. Nickel-plated furniture shows no brassing or other notable wear. Celluloid has a smooth, lustrous finish with no deep scratches or other notable blemishes. Black hard rubber ends are factory black with no fading. Manufacturer imprint on the barrel is deep, sharp, and fully legible. Price: $280SOLD
6. 1930s Ingersoll (black and bronze, celluloid, NPT, button filler, 14k XF Superflex nib). Measures 4 1/2" capped and 5 5/8" posted. I'm uncertain as to whether British Ingersolls like this one were related to the Ingersoll pen company of New Jersey. Pens made in England like this one (as marked) appear to be of much higher quality than do their American counterparts. This one is made of a black and bronze pearl celluloid resembling that which Conklin used for the Endura. The matching clip lock is a nice touch – a detail found on first tier pens. Nickel-plated trim and what appears to be casein blind cap. This pen is a button filler. To fill simply submerse the nib and depress the metal button once (see detail photo in album). Super-Flexible 14k Warranted nib lays down a smooth and consistent XF line that widens to a 4B+ (approx 2.3mm) under light pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE). Thin hairlines, strong snap-back, and reliable flow over its full range of flex make it another great choice for calligraphic writing styles. Condition: excellent- [B-]. Trim is clean aside from plating wear here and there: a spot on the top of the clip and clip ball as well as along the top edge of the thin cap band. Celluloid has a smooth, lustrous finish with no deep scratches or other notable blemishes. Manufacturer imprint on the barrel is deep, sharp, and fully legible. Price: $170SOLD
